After due consideration, prayerful reflection and wide consultation of church members, St. Mary’s Church PCC has unanimously agreed that same-sex couples will be able to give thanks for and mark their love in our church building, and have their relationship blessed by our clergy. Same sex-couples, including those in civil marriages or partnerships, will be able to be blessed during a regular church service, and for the Priest to use what is formally known as ‘The Prayers of Love and Faith’.
Many faithful Christians have felt marginalised for many years because of their sexual orientation, and it gives us all great joy to be able, in some small way, to recognise their love for each other in the sight of God.
These prayers were specifically composed and commended by our Bishops for same sex couples, for whom no other provision was previously made.
